Meet Bec

The Woman behind the name

Rebecca’s deep passion, and life calling of helping people with chronic pain and illness stemmed from her own battles. From birth the odds were not in Bec’s favour, she was in and out of hospital, a revolving door of doctors, specialists and many illnesses. Her illnesses were mostly immune and auto-immune illnesses paired with psoriasis all over her body, head and cold flus – you name it Bec suffered with it!

And this did not allow for an easy childhood, Bec experienced bullying from her classmates because of the way her body responded to her illnesses, and as a child that is not only deliberating physically but also mentally.

By the time Bec was 15 she had developed psoriatic arthritis; beginning in one toe and spreading to the ball of her foot. With this came severe foot pain for many years, pain that Bec had to learn to live with, push through on a daily basis. She continued to live her life exercising, going dancing at night clubs – Bec wanted a form of normality in her life, wanted to feel like a normal young person and just do the normal things – working, studying and partying with her friends.

At the age of 21 Bec met a student naturopath and went to see him at the college student clinic; she remembers being given horribly tasting liquid herbs, flower essences and a cleansing diet. Bec was instructed to cut out most of her unhealthy foods and implement wheat free, meat free, dairy free etc. This was in the 90’s, there were no health food sections in the supermarket so the dedication from Bec was tested. Foods weren’t labelled as “gluten-free” or “dairy-free” so she spent hours upon hours searching for foods she could eat – but the dedication and commitment was well worth it. She, for the first time in her life, felt amazing. Bec had more energy than she had ever experienced, her skin and arthritis pain had softened.

For the next year Bec committed to that way of life, that diet. Unfortunately when she went overseas and lived in Japan for 18 months the diet fell to pieces. With the language barrier, not being able to read the ingredients she lived the tourist life, eating and drinking whatever was in front of her, partied hard and of course, fell into her illnesses again.

In the back of her mind she knew she was going to study Natural Medicine when she came back to Australia, to learn the ways herself and live a healthy life.

Bec was determined not to go down the path of consuming heavy medications that are ultimately a bandaid fix and would suppress her immune system; which unfortunately is the way auto-immune conditions are managed. The medical system couldn’t help her, they prescribed medication that wasn’t only just making day to day life bearable and she knew; this was no way to live. Along this everlasting cycle of being sick, Bec had had enough. She was fed up of always being unwell, fed up of always being in pain and taking over 15 different antibiotics each day plus steroids, her body wasn’t coping. She was suffering from ear infections, throat infections that were so severe she couldn’t speak, a flu that felt like death knocking at the door and even a finger infection that began at her nail and spread up her entire arm into her armpit.

Bec was sick of being sick.

She felt her whole body was shutting down, saying no more.

And unfortunately the only ‘help’ she was receiving was doctors prescribing more meditation and the ones she already had weren’t helping, so why would these?

Bec had decided it was time to change the story, time to take matters into her own hands. She cut out all processed foods and just ate fruit and vegetables for a month and started to feel her body recovering.

At the age of 25 Bec began studying Naturopathy, Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture and after seeing the amazing, and often instant, results people were getting in the student clinic and implementing her own healing it became clear that Bec was on her way to being healthy, really being healthy.
