Why Treatment Frequency Matters
Healing is rarely a straight line. Over time, small and consistent steps can carry us further than we first imagined.
Why Treatment Frequency Matters in Acupuncture
Many people come for acupuncture hoping for lasting relief after a single treatment.
While some people do experience significant changes quickly, especially for recent injuries or mild symptoms, most ongoing health concerns develop gradually over months or years. Because of this, improvement often happens through a process rather than a one-off treatment.
Think about learning a new skill, improving fitness, or recovering from an injury. Consistency matters.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the body's own regulatory and healing mechanisms. Treatments may help reduce pain, ease muscle tension, improve circulation, support nervous system regulation and encourage healthier patterns within the body. Repeating treatments over a period of time can help reinforce these changes and provide the body with more opportunities to move towards a healthier state.
What can influence how many treatments are needed?
Everyone is different, but factors that may affect treatment recommendations include:
• How long symptoms have been present
• The severity of symptoms
• Stress levels and sleep quality
• General health and energy levels
• Work, exercise and daily activities
• How well your body responds to treatment
A common approach
Although every treatment plan is individual, people are often encouraged to begin with treatments once (or rarely twice) per week for several weeks.
As symptoms improve, treatments can usually be spaced further apart.
Some people then choose occasional maintenance treatments to help manage chronic conditions, reduce flare-ups, support wellbeing or simply because they enjoy how they feel after treatment.
The aim is not to have acupuncture forever, but to provide enough support at the right time to create meaningful and lasting change.
At Acupuncture Sanctuary, treatment recommendations are always discussed together and adjusted according to your progress, goals and circumstances.
Meaningful change often happens gradually, with each step building upon the last. Healing is rarely a straight line, but over time those small steps can carry us further than we first imagined.
